Fans Urge Detainment of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a man who jumped a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video reveals the individual from Australia bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for online networks to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising friendship between two distinct characters.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
