Former Physician Accused of Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care
Legal authorities have stated that a ex- physician has been charged with committing assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were patients.
The Grave Allegations
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of acts of sexual assault – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
One deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
