Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
